LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
1st Annual CFBL Charity Golf Tournament Raised $11,500 for the Waccamaw Youth Center
Conway, S.C. -- Aug 28, 2006 --

On Saturday August 26, 2006, the Carolina Forest Business Leaders (CFBL) group hosted their 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament in support of the Waccamaw Youth Center at the Man ‘O War Golf Links.  Proceeds raised for the Waccamaw Youth Center totaled $11,500, which is to be used to run the organization’s new location in Conway off highway 905.  Since 2001, roughly 75 at-risk Horry and Georgetown county youth have found “A Place to Call Home” at the Waccamaw Youth Center.

Nearly 90 golfers showed up in support of the cause, each having the ability to buy raffle tickets, Mulligan tickets and bid on silent auction items.  Prizes were given away for the longest drive, longest put, closest-to-the-pin and overall best team scores.  For those willing to try their luck at getting a hole-in-one, Addy’s Harbor Dodge donated a Chevrolet Cobalt and Hummer golf cart to the cause; however, no one walked away with either prize.

“This event would not have been possible without the immense support we received from the local business community,” said John Cassidy, President of the CFBL group.  Major sponsors of the event included: Thorny’s Steakhouse & Saloon, Seaboard Signs & Engravings, Carolina Southern Railroad, Martin’s PGA Tour Superstore, Lucky Dog Television Productions and Duplicates Ink.

Other local businesses who gave to the cause included: Conway Rentals, Chick-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, Pepsi, Sonic, Piggly Wiggly, Kroger, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Dunkin’ Donuts, Ala Mario’s Pizza, Food Lion, Jimmy’s Japanese Hibachi, Handley’s Pub & Grub, Alabama Theatre, Cheeseburger in Paradise, The Grande Dunes, Wild Wing, Thomas Kinkade Gallery, Coastal Carolina University, A-1 Wireless, T-Bonz Bar & Grill, Rivertown Bistro, Legends in Concert, Sun Zone, Blockbuster Video, Carolina First, ServPro, Charleston Capital Mortgage, Gator 107.9, Next Media, TownPlanner and Jonea Gene Copywriting & Consulting.
